Vote Yes on Question 1 on the Rhode Island ballot to officially remove "Providence Plantations" from our State's name. It’s time to unite, do the right thing, change the name, and vote Yes on 1 by November 3rd.Hear Our Stories
Rhode Island is not a plantation. Perhaps it was planned to be a plantation when Roger Williams founded the state but the word plantation is now archaic. It's not who we are. I support its removal. And I hope the voters will do the right thing, unlike 2010, when "78% of voters opted to retain the Providence Plantations portion.
Providence Plantations to me reminds us of the history of enslavement, colonization, of the plantation culture that existed in Rhode Island. It's time for us to move on. I want a Rhode Island that's fair, just, equitable, and that's why I'm voting Yes on 1.
